Our total investment in Al Taweelah alumina refinery was approximately $3.3 billion.

Peak construction workforce was 11,542, from 20 countries. Construction took 72 million hours of work, equivalent to one person working for over 25,000 years.

Over 280 safety professionals managed onsite safety processes and systems during construction. The rate of recordable safety incidents was far lower than international benchmarks and there were zero fatalities.

Equipment and supplies came from 21 different countries. More than 20 major contracting companies worked on Al Taweelah alumina refinery. 80 per cent of the contracts were awarded to UAE-registered companies.

52,000 tonnes of steel were required to build Al Taweelah alumina refinery, equivalent to seven Eiffel Towers.

Preparations to operate the plant started before construction began, and took 500,000 hours of work.
