Promoting aluminium recycling
It takes 95 per cent less energy to recycle aluminium than it does to make new aluminium. EGA created the Aluminium Recycling Coalition alongside various industry partners to promote aluminium recycling in the UAE.

Aluminium is already the world’s most recycled material, with three-quarters of all the aluminium ever made still in use today. But too much aluminium is still thrown away, lost in landfills instead of continuing to make modern life possible.
These losses to society start with millions of individual decisions on how to dispose of used aluminium products, such as beverage cans.
EGA and Every Can Counts have launched an innovative campaign that aims to encourage consumers to recycle used aluminium drinks cans, boosting the circular economy and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
The fate of used aluminium drink cans is often decided by individual consumers’ choices whether to put their used can in a recycling bin.
Every Can Counts already operates in 21 countries around the world to inspire, encourage and empower people to recycle their drink cans wherever they are. The campaign runs fun activations at festivals, beaches and other popular places.
UAE citizens and residents on average each consume more than 60 aluminium drink cans every year - some 660 million aluminium drink cans in total annually. Only a third are currently recycled, compared to over 95 per cent in leading recycling countries.
Aluminium is infinitely-recyclable. Recycling all used aluminium drink cans globally would save 60 million tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions every year.
EGA's other aluminium recycling initiatives
EGA plans to build the first and largest aluminium recycling facility in the UAE. The facility will process post-consumer aluminium scrap such as used window frames, pre-consumer aluminium scrap from extrusion production, into low-carbon, high quality aluminium billets.
EGA has partnered with RECAPP by Veolia to raise recycling awareness in schools and communities. RECAPP offers digital solutions and door-to-door recycling collection services to consumers.
EGA partners with social enterprise Nadeera on ‘Yalla Return’, innovative recycling solution for some four thousand households near our Jebel Ali site. ‘Yalla Return’ uses technology to encourage and incentivise recycling through a mobile application that is linked to technology-enabled waste collection bins.
